Dedicated IP for your redirects

Redirects play a crucial role in ensuring smooth navigation and optimal user experience. redirect.pizza offers a number of features that help facilitate this. One of these features is providing a Dedicated IP address for your redirects. This Dedicated IP address will ensure a full white-label experience, where only your brand name is visible.

What exactly is a dedicated IP?

Essentially, a Dedicated IP address is an IP address that is assigned to your team only. This means that your redirects won't share this IP address with others - such as with a shared IP address. This reduces potential risks in terms of security, reliability, and brand protection.

Benefits of using a dedicated IP for your redirects

A Dedicated IP has the following advantages for your redirects:

  • You may define a custom CNAME record which is set as the reverse DNS. This will ensure a full white-label experience.
  • You may define your own error templates in HTML. These pages will be shown when a redirect cannot be found. This will ensure that the redirect.pizza brand is never visible to your customers.
  • You may define a custom redirect for when the IP address is entered to your own brand domain.
  • Better protection against DDoS attacks: in case our IP space get's DDOSed, protection is added on a /32 basis. A DDoS on another IP within our network will not effect the Dedicated IP.
  • You may define a custom location (country/region/city/postal code) for geolocating tools.
  • You may define a custom ACME server for issuing SSL certificates.
  • You may use a `X-Forwarded-For` header, accepted under specific CIDR ranges. This can be especially usefull when using redirect.pizza as a headless redirect provider, where the redirect itself is executed within the CMS or CDN layer, powered by the powerfull redirect.pizza matching engine. Passing along the right client IP will result better analytical overview, and the ability to traffic steer based on IP information like country.
  • No other customers will be sharing the IP address, so reverse DNS services will only list your domains.

Dedicated IPs are available as an additional paid add-on. When requested, a dedicated IPv4 & IPv6 address is assigned to your team. Optionally, you may specify your own CNAME record to point to those IP addresses, which may be used as a PTR record for your IPv4 & IPv6 address. We highly recommend this option for larger redirect deployments (from +/- 500 source hostnames).

Other general benefits of using a dedicated IP address

    1. Enhanced reliability and stability for redirect services: by assigning a dedicated IP address for your website, potential issues associated with shared IP addresses, such as traffic congestion or blacklisting, can be mitigated.
    2. Optimized for search engines: using a dedicated IP reduces the risk of being penalized by search engines. Without a dedicated IP, your website will share an IP address with others. This doesn’t have to be a problem straight away, but if you share an IP address with spammy websites, it might result in your website being penalized by search engines. This is unlikely to happen but why run the risk? A dedicated IP ensures that your redirect service is not negatively impacted by the actions of others, ultimately protecting your website's reputation and visibility in search engines.
    3. Security benefits: as the name suggests, shared IPs are used by multiple websites simultaneously. This shared nature can make them susceptible to vulnerabilities, as an attack on one website could potentially affect others sharing the same IP. In contrast, a dedicated IP provides an extra layer of isolation and security, reducing the risk of cyber threats.
    4. Brand protection: as your domain is using a dedicated IP address, only your brand name will be communicated. In other words, your brand will never be associated with redirect.pizza. This can occur when users follow a broken redirect and get notified by our service, for example.

In conclusion, the utilization of a dedicated IP address as a feature in a redirect service offers numerous advantages. Whether you are an individual, a small business, or a large enterprise, opting for a redirect service that offers dedicated IP addresses is a no-brainer!
